Important Silk Route Update

Those of you who have been following the Silk Road bicycle expedition may know that the tour has passed the mid-point, entering the Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan. All was going well and they were having a wonderful time until a General from the Tajikistan security forces was assassinated in the area where they were enjoying a rest day.

In response, the Tajik armed forces initiated a military operation against what appears to be a local militia whom they blamed for the murder of their General. The military activity has forced our team to hunker down in the town of Khorog until it is safe for them to continue the tour.

As soon as we get clearance from the Tajik authorities and the Embassies with which we are working, there will be a transport arranged for the participants to Dushanbe, the capital city, where we will regroup and hopefully continue the tour.

Please note that all the cyclists are safe and accounted for and we are keeping in close touch with our field staff, the cyclists and their relatives.
