Hi there, I quite enjoyed reading your blog and mostly because i cycled a good portion of this area myself, solo from Bangkok to Bali from Nov 01-Feb 02. I arrived for the first time ever in Bangkok from Vancouver, Canada and expected everyone to be riding bicycles. Wrong, I was the only one on a bicycle with most others on mopeds/motorcycles. I spent Xmas in Singapore then sailed from there to Jakarta where I chose the mid Island route over the mountains through Java. I did a side trip to the top of Mt Bromo cause I guess I needed more intense hills to climb. Four months later and 3500miles (5000kms) later I arrived safely in Denpasar. From there I flew back to BKK then home. Did my cold beer ever taste good that night! haha
I have many other long rides under my belt but this trip through South East Asia definitely stands out as a “trip of a lifetime” for me.

I was just reading your exciting article about cycling in Java – the most difficult multi-day ride ever?

As I am going to cycle the length of Java myself, I was wondering if you would like to share the route that you’ve taken.

Do you perhaps have an itinerary your able to share?
