Hi Bill. I think you meant to say that Highwood Pass is closed to vehicle traffic from December to June? – not June to December, which is prime tourist season in the Rockies.

A gated, car-free highway in the Rocky Mountains.

The highest paved highway in Canada runs north/south through the Rockies. Is closed to motor traffic for 52 kms from June to December to protect wildlife. Moose and grizzlies are fairly common sights. Bighorn sheep are so unconcerned with you that you have to steer around them.
Snow is unpredictable so there’s some luck involved.
But if you’re in that area during the closure it’s sure worth checking out.
