Hi Rae, yes you make a very good point! Especially on the long tours where you really develop a strong relationship with your fellow riders over a third or even half a year on the road together… life becomes very simple, and the thought of leaving the “TDA bubble” and returning to the real world is certainly daunting towards the end.

The overwhelming feeling I have is that of impending withdrawal from every day on the bike with new places and experiences, cokes and beers with the gang. I start to appreciate more what we’ve already seen, the people and shared life. Maybe I appear relaxed – if so, that’s probably a great relief to my fellow riders – buy my mood is of strangely tranquil sadness that with every passing pedal stroke, the greater the likelihood that the best is already behind.
