Well Henry, at one time I was dreaming about going on Tour D’afrique during the last week of 2004. With only two weeks prior to the start in Cairo, I called to see if I could participate. You sent me a package and for anyone who knows about going on one of these trips, I managed to get bike supplies, clothing, visa, and health shots and be in Cairo for the start in early January 2005 on the 3rd excursion.
So, adding to the life strong guidelines such as you mentioned in your blog, “crisis makes opportunity”, I suggest “actions cure fears”.
After several trips with TDA over the years, I am still stuck in my business in Sault Ste, Marie, without freedom of mobility, however with Covid landing a firm face plant on life, I am dreaming about how to recover and how to blend stronger environmental values into our day to day business at The Water Tower Inn. This includes gaining personal freedom to go on a few TDA trips once again. In other words, at the threshold of converting crisis to opportunity to actions like never before.
It won’t be easy, however as we aspire to a world of balanced economies and sustainable living for the billions left out, I think I feel enabled with a new sense of personal power for action based change.
Good to see the ways TDA continues to inspire and aspire.

I love the fact that you remind us that every major crisis in human history has brought new opportunity. So to will this virus and the world that we chose to forge going forward. Interesting to think that something as simple as a bicycle might help transport many more people into a deeper, more meaningful interaction with their community and the world at large. I also appreciate that you continue to remain so positive and forward thinking in this time where fear mongering and paralysis seem to be all around us. Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective.

Dreaming of another continent crossing cycling adventure. The destination? Doesn’t really matter. Lucky are those that savor the eat/sleep/ride lifestyle, living in the moment, interacting with locals, learning about their culture and way of life, embracing the hills, climbs and weather of all sorts, leaving conventional life behind. Every day new vistas, new destinations. Sharing the world adventure with like minded people.
Dam I miss it.. one day this covid pandemic will be in the rearview mirror.
Good things come to those who are patient.
Stay safe, ride/explore/ discover closer to home
