We are looking at Iceland if the world gets a grasp on the Covid. Our group consist of a Swiss, a German and three Cannucks.
It fun planning an itinerary from three countries, We agree on a destination, and then come out my collection of maps, another bud going over google earth, another accommodation, everyone on tourist sights, and it goes together like clock work, other than the hick-ups on the road.
2019 was our last trip, and we did something that was not exotic as the usual Eastern European or Central Asia trips, but we rode the top half of Ireland and South East Scotland. There were several big mechanical’s and delayed ferries because of a recent tropical storm that went through the Bahama’s.
Everything still went to plan, and we did not have to cancel anything.
My wife (non cyclist) and I had to cancel everything for our Balkan trip we organized in April. We had all the flights, hotels and transportation arrangements completed, when we had to cancel our trip. We were one of the lucky ones where we got all of the flights to Sarajevo and out of Belgrade to Switzerland and then home refunded., and four nights accommodations in two separate hotels none refundable, so we were only out around $300.
My wife could not visit her mother in Switzerland this year, and the way things are going, it could be doubtful for 2021. The Canadian government want everyone to stay home and only go to out of country destinations only if essential. That could mean we have to stay within our own province for who knows how long.
My wife has even suggested that if things get better, we could fly to Victoria to visit our son and that I should bike back to Woodstock. Sounds good, but had to say if I wold call it a bucket list.as I have cycled back from the East Coast.
Thank god I cycle, and I have had a few over-nighters this year, and since I have been retired for a bit over a year, I have done a distance I have never achieved in the past and that is I am 56km short of 19,000 km this year. I hope to ride that tomorrow.
All the best in the new year.
Gerald
