Fellow adventurers, Every year I set myself a challenge on top of a challenge! For 2020 the South American Tour is it!! It also ticks off another one on my bucket list...cycling in Patagonia. Besides keeping my mind, heart and muscles in shape, I use cycling as a platform to raise money for Cancer Charities. I still need to name a charity in 2020. Among others, I have completed numerous cycle challenges and stage races including Mt Kilimanjaro to Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania (400km) for Bloodline, London to Paris (507km) for Children with Cancer, the Mongolia MTB (650km) for Friends of Cancer Patients and Rumble in the Jungle in Sri Lanka (250km) also for Friends of Cancer Patients and in 2019 the Rift Valley Odyssey in Kenya (500km) for MacMillian. The end was in the Maasi Mara National Park and another one on my bucket list. Not on my list was being chased by a Cape Buffalo which was a freaking frigtening experience. A Cape Buffalo can charge at approx 56kmh and kills more people in Africa that any other mammal. God is on my side. I am not one for excuses but I was told to tell you all about myself. For those that don't know me I am a proud Welshman that took up cycling as a result of two lumber back operations which scuppered my rugby and football career. With a goal to keep my mind, heart and muscles in shape, I found that cycling was low impact and through training I was able to overcome the weakness and sensory loss in my right leg and foot. Problem is when I low side or fall like a sack of spuds on my right hand side, where and when my right foot becomes unclipped is in the hands of God. Touch wood, my last big crash was in late 2017 when I came into a corner too aggressively and hit the deck hard. As I result I fractured my pelvis in two places and chipped a bone in my back. I can vouch that safety helmets do work. I try and complete 12 challenges every year and plan to do the same in 2020 culminating with the South American Tour. I have reached many peaks in my career and in 2020 I am embarking on a portfolio career and giving back though being a STEM Ambassador, helping small and medium size companies grow and staying engaged in the C-Suite through Non Executive/Outside Director roles. I am also continuing to educate and better myself with Executive courses. This is why I have the time to join the Tour. I look forward to meeting fellow adventurers later this year. As I know we will also be cycling nearby some Welsh speaking communities that settled in Patagonia in the 1800's so don't be shoked if you see me flying the Welsh Flag on route. Assuming I reach the end of the world in December, my wife Joanne will fly over to join the celebrations. Take care, Neil

I am a lifetime cyclist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. My wife (Debby who is joining me on the tour) have raised 2 children on the back of a tandem which we are not taking. We enjoy riding out of our second home off of the Blue Ridge Parkway in SW Virginia. We are used to climbing but not long distances so this will be a bit of a challenge for us. My Strava account tells me that I rode 3,000 mile in 2019. While we are are only doing one leg of the tour from Santiago to Puerto Montt, it will be great to meet the crazy hard core cyclists doing the entire route. Note: I'll be 71 when do this tour!

I am retired after 30 years in Shell International focusing on environmental management of Shell operations worldwide and having been based in various countries, including Chile. I was born and grew up in Zimbabwe, attended university in South Africa, and worked in Zimbabwe and South Africa before joining Shell in the UK. I now live in Guildford, south west of London. I am very involved in Lions Clubs International, a charitable service organisation, and carry out other volunteering roles. I very much enjoy outdoor activities with trout fishing ranking top. I am relatively new to cycling and finding it an enjoyable way to explore the lovely hilly and wooded sites across the Surrey Hills around Guildford. I am married to Erica, who is also intending tackling the Carretera Austral. We have two grown up daughters who live in London.

I joined the Africa 2020 tour in Nairobi and three riding days later the Tour was over due to Coronavirus. In that short time I became addicted despite not being in a tent since my 20s. I'm sort of retired with family commitments though occasionally I'm allowed out.. Hopefully see you all later this year

I am a 69 year-old that has primarily been running over the last 10 years. (Lots of gym sessions and treadmill in the decades before that.) I completed the Viva Italia trip last fall and was impressed. It's time to take on some more trips...

“It's hard to comprehend the entire tour because everyday is visually stimulating. It is mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging. But you get to see more of each country than the average tourist. The opportunity to see each country in its most natural state is worth the challenging mountains and grueling highway riding.”

“This adventure was the most remarkable experience of my life.”
