Taking a year+ off (likely retired) enterprise software product guy working off a few bucket list items that were put off until I made enough time. I am 56 years old, live in Vancouver, Canada and am married with daughter in university. Biking wise, I have been more of a road biker but did bike 1,100 km across British Columbia late summer 2020 on the Great Trail/TransCanada Trail as a warm up for this. I have travelled widely on business and vacations but in Africa only a little - Morocco, Tunisia and Kenya - so am looking forward to learning and seeing a lot more. I am a little intimidated by the whole thing but that is a good part of the reason to do this :)

Hi! My name is Rita and I am a retired Public Health Nutritionist living in New York City. I can’t wait for the next TDA adventure. Since I started cycling at 49 and doing lots of bike trips to see the world, , I have ALWAYS and continue to be the oldest woman on each and every tour. My message to anyone who might consider it a barrier… don’t … just do it and you’ll have the time of your life.

55 year old who enjoys bicycle touring, traveling, hiking, and downhill and xc skiing. Lives in Soda Springs, CA. This will be my forth trip with TDA - 2020 Tour d’Afrique, 2021 Great American Road Trip, and 2022 Bamboo Road. Down time activities includes cooking, eating, listening to music, watching futbol, and reading. This trip is the top of my bucket list and I can’t wait to explore that same areas that Genghis Khan and Marco Polo traveled. What adventures we will have!

Made Cairo to Arusha in 2020 - we got stuck because of covid; went from Victoria Falls to Cape Town last year. So this year I wanted to go from Nairobi to VicFalls but had to cancel. Happy to have another chance next year and see all my friends from the 2020 tour

I'm 62 years old and haven't cycled a lot for quite some time due to work commitments. However, for many years, I was a very active on my bike and is still perfectly comfortable on it. I'm also a nature- and adventure lover and particularly Africa is dear to me. My intended participation in this tour is specifically aimed at starting a new life post-retirement with a bang!

This will be my 12th trip with TDA, as I've previously ridden all or part of the Trans Europa, the Orient Express, the Hippie Trail, the Bamboo Road, Magical Madagascar, the Tour d'Afrique, the Trans Oceania, the Odyssey, the North American Epic, the South American Epic and the Great American Roadtrip . I retired eight years ago, after more than 35 years prosecuting criminal cases for the Ontario government, and spend the bulk of my time cycling, golfing, reading and travelling. I am looking forward to getting together with some old friends and making some new ones.

I am an almost retired family doctor, working just enough to help pay for this type of grand adventure! I do lots and lots of kayaking and expeditions, but this will be my first big bike tour. One might as well start off with a challenge! Growing up on Canada's balmy wet west coast, I have been bike riding for commuting and exercise most of my life, but I have only done a couple of tours in the past - Ireland and New England. This Covid delay has given me even more time to get some experience on the bike before the trip,

What have I signed up for!!! I must admit my main sporting passion is ocean swimming, it doesn't sound like there'll be much of that on offer! We, that is myself, & Nick (husband, also on the tour) got a taste for cycle touring on a recent trip to Costa Rica - Challenging, yes, rewarding, absolutely. Not too sure how this long distance cycle touring will go, however, always looking for the next challenge, so will give it my best shot. At least it's heading south - that is downhill - isn't it? Chao Chicos, nos vamos en Julio.

I live in Perth Western Australia, married to Johanna (Jo) who is also on the Trip. I am reasonably active enjoying outdoor activities, ocean swimming, windsurfing, snowboarding and of course riding. I ride a hard tail mountain bike in preference to a standard road bike even when commuting, makes me work harder chasing guys on road bikes. The longest bike trip I have done was in 2015 when we completed the Epic South America Trip. Since then we have ridden from Manali to Leh through the high mountain passes of Ladakh. Since returning from South America I have competed in several long distance offroad endurance rides and enjoy the physical and mental challenges. I have worked as a Surveyor for about 40 years on land and sea, remote areas to urban centres. Have travelled, worked and lived in a number of different countries including Southern Africa, Guatemala, Venezuela, Qatar, Mauritania and of course Australia.

I am a Calgary commercial lawyer who is semi-retired (will be fully retired when this trip starts). I enjoy reading (historical fiction), cycling, running, swimming, triathlons, racket sports, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, travelling (and what better way than by bike), and volunteering. Fondness for beer (part owner of a craft brewery) and fine wines, rum and whisky. I am married with two adult children and 2 dogs.

I'm 66 and live in Warsaw, Poland. Until a few yours ago I've been very active in business (running my own company and our horse ranch). Then my kids took the duties over from me and now I have more time for me and my sports activities. A few years ago I started to bike. I have done a few MTB biking trips in the mountains of Portugal, Austria and Albania. Within the last 3 years I’ve been bike touring in Norway, Scotland, Spain and Corsica. 2022 I participated in the New Zealand sections of TransOceania and recently in the full tour of Journey to the East - it’s been great!

61 year old husband and father of one (20 year old son) who is passionate about supported and unsupported bicycle touring. I have ridden across the US (Adventure Cycling Northern Tier), Seattle to San Francisco (unsupported), Canadian to Mexican border unsupported along cascades/coast, Skyline/BlueRidge Mountains (unsupported) among others. I have ridden four different Alp tours in France and Italy including a Grand Tour of the Alps and multiple one week tours in the USA. Currently Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky but am entering phased retirement in July 2021. I ride a Kona Sutra with panniers on unsupported trips. Really enjoy the friendship and camaraderie that develop on bicycle trips like this one. Plan to do section 2 and 3 of the TDA Bamboo road.

TDA Global has been on my radar for many years and I finally decided to put it on the calendar - I'll be 67 years young for the tour in 2024 so its time to get on it. My home is in Houston, Tx but I also move around to Louisiana and other locations to have diversity in my riding locations.

"It was my third tour with tda and I'm still as excited as I was on the first tour. The cyclists get exactly the level of support you need. I'm not in great shape and I had to struggle to do the distances. Many days were very hard. But you always drive with a safety net. And to cycle through the solitude of Namibia in this grandiose nature or to meet a herd of elephants on the roadside on long straight lonely stretches through the bush in Botswana, these are experiences for the whole life."

"I have done more than 50 multi stage events over the last 20 years. TdA tour was run the most professional of all these events. Clearly this organisation has figured out and mastered touring."

"Is there a better way of life? Living outdoors, cycling across some of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen, greeting locals in different languages and creeping up on exotic wildlife and domestic animals, camping in the wind, or rain or heat under the stars with the flysheet off, eating as much as I can... and sharing it all with very interesting, funny and supportive fellow riders as I arrive at camp high on endorphins."
