Don’t Try This at Home

The full moon of Wali Halfa has dwindled to a slender halo. The new moon signals our entry into our third country—Ethiopia. Ever since Khartoum, Sudan has decided to turn up the thermostat. Long days of riding coupled with the 40 degree temperatures has most looking forward to cooler mountains and even colder beer of Ethiopia.

Today, one of our riders illustrated why TDA outlaws drafting vehicles. Clipping along at sixty kilometers per hour directly behind a truck, a fallen muffler suddenly appeared. With no time to react, he hit the muffler, sending him to the side of the road. He fell on his right side and has five spots of road rash, a torn jersey and split cycling shorts to prove it. The muffler bent and snapped his rear rim. Shaken by the fall, but okay to ride, he cycled the last 5km to lunch where Dr. Luke could patch him up.
