The one where Barnes takes a tumble

The riders were treated to a rare sight in Egypt the evening of the 17^th.  For the first time in 4 years a thunderstorm rolled through our campsite just south of Suez. A spectacular storm rolled through camp, lighting up the night sky as the last riders struggled in the headwind into camp.    Many riders lost their EFI status too early in the expedition.  The first round of the storm passed shortly after dinner and it seemed like we might be safe for the night. Sadly, ATD Barnes was up late finishing her work.  When she was setting up she decided to forgo pegging out her tent in an effort to get more sleep.  
The second stormed rolled in just after midnight forcing Barnes to starfish in her tent desperate to keep her tent down in the crazy wind.  Then she when for a tuck, her tent went for a roll taking her along with it for the ride.  The storm took her tumbling though the desert in the night like a tumble weed.   Trying to find the door and desperate to locate her headlamp she was flung across camp.  Then the rain started…  Sopping wet and lost in the desert she stumbled her way back to camp and into the lunch truck for the night.   Barnes may have found the perfect port in the storm. The rest of the camp desperately held onto their tent poles willing them not to shatter in the storm.  The first camp lessons of the trip were   1.       Always know where your headlamp is. 2.      When Chef James pegs out, you should too.
