Hi all! I'm Benjamin. I have worked several TDA tours over the last two years and cannot wait to meet you all on this one! I love traveling and being part of something bigger than myself and TDA tours are just that. I am an exceptionally adequate naturalist (I have a B.S in Zoology), lover of sports and athletics, and type two fun enthusiast (as I am sure many of you are as well). The combination of sport, being outside, and working towards a goal all come together for me on the seat of a bike, the best seat in the house. When you're on a bike, you're not just passing through the landscape, you are part of it. Exposed to the elements and open to encounters, you are in a position of vulnerability that break the barrier between traveler and local. That openness invites connection, allowing you to immerse yourself in new cultures and, more often than not, be welcomed by the people you meet. This is a great thing you are all doing. Balazs Perjesy

I am based in Hungary. Having started out as a chef with TDA, I think food is one of the most important elements for a successful tour. I like to introduce local delicacies to our riders, and get to know their stories over a nice meal. I also enjoy connecting with locals - from receptionists to market vendors to car mechanics to kitchen staff at hotels. I like getting to know them and working together with them. I am often amazed how kindhearted, selfless and helpful most people are, and how far some of them go to help a cycling tour continue its journey. It is a great feeling to solve a hard situation without the clients noticing anything. As one of our riders put it, when the surface of the water is smooth, no one needs to know how much pedaling is going on underneath.

My personal favourite bike ride on a TDA tour was an early morning Sierra Nevada in Spain scout ride on Trans-Europa.

My advice to future TDA participants is to come with curiosity, a well fit bike and a lightweight duffel bag. All three will make your life so much easier every day.

20. Twenty. Just a number. But when we talk about 20 years, it is a significant chunk of a lifetime. It's been 20 years since I started long-distance bike touring with TDA. 20 years of cycling. Riding a bike for longer stretches alone brings calm to the craziness, and it feels the best way to relax for me. Going somewhere, pushing the pedals, moving forward, feeling the wind, while rearranging my thoughts in my head. It is a therapy. For the body and the soul. In these twenty years I became a frequent traveler, I visited many countries on four continents, crossed countless borders, and – most importantly – made many many friends. Friends from all over the world. Literally from every corner of it. And of course, I assisted these friends to do what we – cyclists – like to do the most: pushing the pedals, moving forward, feeling the wind… I am glad I did. I would not change a thing. And... Got a taste for long distance cycling after completing LEJOG in 2017. Retired in 2022 and celebrated by cycling Coast to Coast across the United States self guided with 3 friends. My first TDA trip came in 2023 when I cycled Journey To The East which was amazing and this year rode a section of the Bamboo Road- Bangkok to Penang. Looking forward to riding in Spain and Portugal for the first time and experiencing wonderful scenery and amazing, cafes, restaurants and coffee stops!

Both rode LEJOG in 2014, TDA Bamboo Road in 2015, the first third of TDA Trans-Europa in 2016, the TDA Odyssey in 2017, the TDA Pub Ride in 2018, the last 80% of TDA's North American Epic (Banff to Panama) in 2019, and Viva Italia in 2022. This will be my second TDA tour on an e-bike and first without Judy, who unfortunately could be heading for a hip replacement in 2025. My main hobby is recreational mathematics.

I am newish to cycling. I started when Covid was keeping us from traveling. At first it was just a way to enjoy the outdoors with my husband, and then it turned into a real accomplishment for me to be able to keep up with him and other experienced cyclers, especially now in my 50's. I love traveling and exploring new places and learning along the way how we are all seemingly connected. I look forward to making new friends and lots of warm memories.

I've been bike-touring here and there as time permitted. I've done the Katy Trail (twice), parts of the Mickelson Trail in South Dakota, The TransAmerica in 2017 with the ACA, Pacific Coast Northern Tier, Death Valley, Idaho, ACAs Utah Parks, ACAs Great Lakes and four Ride the Rockies, and two Pedal the Plains. (Both RIP) In 2022 I biked solo from Edinburgh to Paris and then joined up with TDA's Orient Express Tour to end up in Istanbul. In 2025 my wife Gina joined me for her first TDA ride on the inaugural Olive Route from Athens to Lisbon. I am looking forward to joining all of you for the 2026 Journey to the East ride. I'll almost be last one in, but I tend to go slow and dawdle.

My Husband Anthony (Tony) and I, are from Hobart in Tasmania...we went on our first TDA tour in 2014 from Lima to Cuzco part of the South African Epic our second tour was NZ from Auckland to Queenstown 2015 and a lap around our state Tasmania in 2022 both were part of the Trans Oceania. We have completed 3 full tours the Pub Ride 2017, Viva Italia 2020 and The Orient Express in 2022. We are looking forward to Morocco!

Special thanks to the TDA and their amazing, dedicated staff for making such trips,. and the quote above, possible- there is an incredible amount of work that goes into scouting, logistics, bookings, vehicles, staffing food, etc etc. Nobody does it better than the TDA, No one runs tours like they do on roads less travelled. It's a wonderful lifestyle, Eat, Sleep and Ride. Learning lots every day from wherever we are on the planet. " The world is my classroom, I am it's student and class is in session!" Thanks also to the many wonderful, strong willed fellow riders who have helped shape each unique journey and make it special. From ages 25 to 78+, you are all very inspiring and show us what is possible, proving that age is just a number. Starting doing my first TDA trip back in 2011 and doing quite some more along the years I am so happy to be back there after a far too long Corona pause. First time cycling with you in Europe is exciting - a bit more comfortable than my third world camping expeditions.. Fits me really well! And about time to learn the more charming stretches of Germany after pendling between Austria (where I live) and Denmark (where I come from) for over 40 years. This will be wonderfull: to meet you all and doing a full supported tour again!

Randy is happily married to his best friend and wife Sandy of 42 years. He has three adult children, all married and eight grandchildren. Randy resides in Kelowna, British Columbia and enjoys his semi-retirement from his real estate development career at Mission Group. When he is not working, he loves travel, cycling, skiing, boating and oil painting. Born in Vancouver, he has been a lifelong British Columbian, except for six years in Los Angeles, earning a degree in architecture from the University of Southern California. His favourite team sports to watch are hockey and football. Randy is an avid Vancouver Canucks fan, USC Trojan college football fan, as well as a Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He and Sandy have experienced multiple long distance cycling adventures since 2015. Randy is grateful to be married to an adventurous wife as she has been the catalyst for our long distance cycling adventures.

I’m an ex seafarer, retired now for 13 years, fortunate enough to have been able to get away on a bike tour with TdA every year since 2011, until 2020 that was! My last rides were Morocco, Kingdom of the West, in 2024, and the Olive Route mid 2025. I'm joining the NAE 2025 in Yuma and looking forward to catching up with friends from past rides, meeting new ones, and sharing this adventure with a beer, or should that be, a wine or two.
