TDA allows me to go to off-the-beaten-track parts of the world at just the right pace, on a bike - with my camera. For me it's a great combination of being active, exploring new places and taking photographs. Can't think of a better way of spending these years of my life - which the word 'retirement' doesn't seem to describe very well.

Working outdoors is phenomenal.

When TDA need local support for translations in Turkey in 2014, I entered the picture. Before TDA, I lived year-round there, in Izmir. Now I live on the road eight months of the year; the rest of the time I’m in Turkey, either applying for visas or rock-climbing.

Sometimes on a tour our failures are as incredible as our successes. Being defeated as my tour attempted to climb a new route on Koca Sarp, a rocky mountain in central Anatolia, is an experience I’ll always remember.

I’ve seen so much of the world with TDA. My favourite place I’ve been so far is Meteora, Greece. Probably the greatest pleasure of cycle-touring for me is never spending more than two days in a row in the same spot.

20. Twenty. Just a number. But when we talk about 20 years, it is a significant chunk of a lifetime. It's been 20 years since I started long-distance bike touring with TDA. 20 years of cycling. Riding a bike for longer stretches alone brings calm to the craziness, and it feels the best way to relax for me. Going somewhere, pushing the pedals, moving forward, feeling the wind, while rearranging my thoughts in my head. It is a therapy. For the body and the soul. In these twenty years I became a frequent traveler, I visited many countries on four continents, crossed countless borders, and – most importantly – made many many friends. Friends from all over the world. Literally from every corner of it. And of course, I assisted these friends to do what we – cyclists – like to do the most: pushing the pedals, moving forward, feeling the wind… I am glad I did. I would not change a thing. And... I am ready for my next therapy session! See you there! Peace Gergo

I am based in Hungary. Having started out as a chef with TDA, I think food is one of the most important elements for a successful tour. I like to introduce local delicacies to our riders, and get to know their stories over a nice meal. I also enjoy connecting with locals - from receptionists to market vendors to car mechanics to kitchen staff at hotels. I like getting to know them and working together with them. I am often amazed how kindhearted, selfless and helpful most people are, and how far some of them go to help a cycling tour continue its journey. It is a great feeling to solve a hard situation without the clients noticing anything. As one of our riders put it, when the surface of the water is smooth, no one needs to know how much pedaling is going on underneath.

My personal favourite bike ride on a TDA tour was an early morning Sierra Nevada in Spain scout ride on Trans-Europa.

My advice to future TDA participants is to come with curiosity, a well fit bike and a lightweight duffel bag. All three will make your life so much easier every day.

Have been bike touring since about 2007 through Tasmania, New Zealand, Thailand, Israel, Africa, Costa Rica, parts of Mexico, India and Sri Lanka and most of Europe except those cold northern areas. And I did a self-supported ride to China, via Macau in 1983, now that was an adventure... My "affair" with the TdA family began with the Africa trip in 2012. Then the inaugural French Connection tour in 2016, 2017 The Odyssey. Fabulous group, exciting hill climbs, rugged/raw scenery and the tour leaders & staff, exceptional. 2018 Pub Ride 2, a fun trip with lots of laughs and and great hills in the Yorkshire Moors. 2019 The Hippie Trail and best tour for diversity, contradiction, colour, food and, and, and excitement. I enjoy travelling with like-minded people from all parts of the world, indulging in a cold beer or two when it's hot, or cold but especially after a great day in the saddle. Just love the life on the road.

Cycling, photographing, video-ing, and traveling -- what could be better?! I cherish the many precious and unique experiences that these tours have unlocked for me over the years, so let's keep 'em coming! You might see me out on the road snapping pics, shooting a short rider interview at lunch, or editing on a rest day in the lobby. My goal is always to bring the tour to life through visual media -- to share with friends, family, and the greater TDA community, and as memories for riders to cherish for years to come. See you on the road!

The thing I love most about my job is watching the social dynamics unfold.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been stripping, fixing, and riding bicycles. As well, I knew from a young age I wanted to explore, travel, and see the world—my dream at one time was to fly airplanes. However, it wasn’t long before I realized that flying in a straight line from point A to point B wasn’t for me!

When I left school I had no direction, no idea of where I wanted to be or what I wanted to do, once my dream of flying died. In 2003, I saw a magazine ad of a bunch of cyclists lined up in front of the Giza pyramids and I became hooked on the idea of doing that but I had to choose between taking a four-month cycling trip across Africa or going to Warriors Boot Camp to get educated. I chose Warriors and the programme equipped me for life by giving me a solid foundation. There, I was free to discover and explore who I was and to test physical and mental endurance. Having my attitude and my comfort zone constantly pushed readied me for all sorts of real-world challenges. I stayed at Warriors for three years, then cycled solo across Africa when I was 22 years old. In 2009, I landed the job as TDA’s assistant tour director on the Cairo to Cape Town trip—and the rest is history.

Ever since, Africa has been my baby and my favourite. I’ve worked on other tours—the Silk Route, the Bamboo Road, Ruta Maya, Magical Madagascar—but Africa is my full-time project and has lately included TDA’s complex tour of West Africa.

I’m based in beautiful Cape Town; when I’m not here, I’m scouting, exploring, problem-solving somewhere in the world and revelling in the adventure of being alive.

TDA has taken me to 80 countries and my most incredible off-the-beaten-track expedition was the West Africa scout in 2017, especially Guinea—I’d never been to a place so remote, rough or wild. I fell in love with Africa all over again on that trip. The stories are epic and endless!

There’s never a dull moment with TDA, because you absolutely never know what’s going to happen next.

I'm an ambitious and curious cinematographer utilizing creative storytelling to inspire a global movement of exploration. My emphasis is on representing a variety of geographic populations to advocate for cultural diversity and environmental stability, as well as mental and physical benefits to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. This will be my fourth tour with TDA, previously serving as the content creator on the Hippie Trail across India, The Odyssey, and Kingdom of the West! I'm excited to meet you all and embark on this adventure together!

20. Peace Gergo

My cycling history is sporadic, I went to Expo 67 in Montreal as a kid but ditched my bike once I got my drivers licence. Bought a bike 30 years later and completed Canada going to Halifax with Ryan. Ditched my bike again because too much work for an “old guy”. A couple of years ago I got talked into Athens to Amsterdam with TDA, so I with a new bike I loved the trip. This time I am doing more training! Looking forward to a new adventure.

There are many things I love about my job, but my favorite is to dive deep in the route to learn all about its features, profile, geographical and historical facts, and to reunite with the team and riders to explore the journey together. All of us are very privileged to be able to explore the world at the pace of a bicycle; to really be present and see, feel, hear and smell all the environments we are cycling through. I love to keep the riders focused on their journey, motivating them to see the magic and the beauty of what we have the opportunity to be doing. I like to be the bridge to their experience, helping them face the challenges and persevere.

I currently live in Belgium. I have been traveling through all hidden corners of the American continent and Europe for the last 10 years where I learnt about its history and culture. I'm a certified nature and history guide in Mexico, specialized in Mayan History. I'm also a technical cave diver and worked with cave exploration in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, where I lived for 9 years. Here I developed skills in safety and risk management, which is one of my favorite aspects of the job as a tour leader: to be able to foresee hazards and plan ways to mitigate them.

Cycling is my favorite thing to do, so in 2017 I did a solo self supported bike trip for 4 months from Mexico to Brazil. This was when I decided to change the course of my career from guiding nature and cave diving tours to working with cycling tour companies, realizing I could transfer my skills in safety and risk assessment from cave diving into leading cycling tours/expeditions.

My tip for cyclists joining our tours is to trully allow yourself to be out of your comfort zone and to enjoy being there. Traveling by bike is physically challenging, but having a strong, open and adventurous mind is what you need to take the most out of it. Learn to appreciate the differences. To think as a group and to be realistic about what crossing a country - or a few of them - by bicycle implies. It's a unique and a massive achievement for everyone involved in it, don't forget that! Have fun, and smile always.

A mountain biker at heart, but bike touring pays the bills!

Most of the time, I work at the TDA head office in Toronto as the IT Manager, but I also sometimes work on the tours as needed, either as a guide or a bike mechanic. I landed here because my uncle mentioned to me he had a friend—Henry—with this crazy bike company, the friend and I met, and the rest is history.

I studied Business and IT at university, and my previous job was at an exotic car dealership. In my own time, I do more mountain biking than touring, and usually find nice trails to ride wherever our tours take me. Outside of TDA, I’ve cycled across Europe and half of Canada.

The Pamir Highway was a peak experience for me! As a mountain biker, I always love the roughest, crappiest roads our tours travel on. My favourite day of the entire Silk Route was actually the day that most of the other riders thought was the worst—it ended with a long switchback descent on a rough gravel road.

Every day brings a new challenge to solve, whether here in the office or on the side of a road in the desert. I really value that element of my job and relish it immensely.

South Africa

There is a great sense of satisfaction seeing a Rider finishing their day with a smile on their face, and that Day by Day, we have Taken someone safely to a place on this planet that Most People will never see, and all whilst by Bicycle.

I am a South African that has lived a life of itchy travel feet, and found myself Living in Sweden. Being a passionate cyclist in my teenage years, my Bike Mechanic Brother, taught me to fix my own bicycles, a vital bit of knowledge not only for a teenager trying to save money on bike repairs, but how it would shape my working career.

I've worked in all corners of the Bike industry,... shops, import and distribution, race teams, and even now for the Swedish Cycling Federation, as well as personal Guiding for a huge mix of private clients. They have all added up into helping me grow my knowledge of a bicycle, and how I can make one operate even in the worst environments with rider abuse,....which then played into the hand of being a confident TDA mechanic.

Guiding and Leading Tours came organically through my knowledge of Traveling, mixed with my knowledge of fixing bikes, thrown into the pot of being a passionate cyclist, and large desire of being on the Move.... Quite a mix.

TDA tours have the ability to provide one with a gift. It is a gift that keeps on giving...and that is: just when you think you have seen it all, there is always something else to surprise you with! From sleeping inside the Great Wall of China, to swatting flies off your sandwich in 49celcius Australian outback, or watching stars in the Sudanese Sahara, to Sipping Expresso's in an Italian cafe. From the Orderly bike lanes of Denmark to the chaos of Freetown, Sierra Leone.... There is so much that happens daily!

For any future rider that is wondering how to make their experience better. Set your expectations reasonably, ask questions, And come prepared... and Know your equipment!

Know how your bike feels, make sure it has arrived on tour Fully serviced. Know how to put up your tent if you're not confident with it.

And Figure out your bag packing! I have watched too many people lose an hour of their precious day (and some everyday for 4 months).. because they don't have their equipment organized.

Cheers..and happy riding!

Touring on a bicycle is one of the nicest ways to enjoy myself outdoors. I can combine inhaling LOTS of fresh air, get HEAPS of exercise and ENJOY sight seeing, all at the same time. Even in the busiest, or quietest spots, simply pull over, put your foot down and breathe, take in your surroundings, and a take a few pictures too. As a TDA first-timer on Journey to the East: Seoul to Sapporo in 2025, the experience was fantastic, and exceeded expectations. I could not wait to sign up for more tours. "The very core of man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. First rider to have completed all of the TDA 7 Epics. Special thanks to the TDA and their amazing, dedicated staff for making such trips,. and the quote above, possible- there is an incredible amount of work that goes into scouting, logistics, bookings, vehicles, staffing food, etc etc. Nobody does it better than the TDA, No one runs tours like they do on roads less travelled. It's a wonderful lifestyle, Eat, Sleep and Ride. Learning lots every day from wherever we are on the planet. " The world is my classroom, I am it's student and class is in session!" Always game for an adventure, I have enjoyed biking for over a decade. Inspired by a friend, I completed the Pan-Mass Challenge in 2015, a 192 mile trek across my home state of Massachusetts. This opened my eyes to the joys of long distance cycling. I've had wonderful experiences on tours riding from New Hampshire to Washington, DC in 2018, traveling coast to coast across the northern tier of the United States in 2019, and tours joining riders from the UK across France in 2022, and Portugal in 2024. It has been special sharing my cycling passion with my family. Two of my most memorable rides include the New York City 5 Boro Bike Tour completed with my wife and one of my daughters in 2024, and a 2025 ride around Cabot Trail on Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island with my wife, my other daughter and our friends. Though I enjoy the solitude that comes from endurance rides, and reflective time spent alone, one of the greatest joys from my tours have been the friendships I have formed. These experiences really lend themselves to strangers becoming life-long friends. I can't wait to explore Europe again, joining TDA Global Cycling on the 2026 Odyssey Tour and riding from Athens to Munich!

I am a retired emergency physician living in Ketchum/Sun Valley, Idaho. My wife and I have two kids, and after dropping our youngest off at college, we moved here so that we could have easy access to skiing, biking (both road and mountain), and hiking. My first taste of bike touring was when I joined a college buddy for just four days of his several month ride that went the length of the Mississippi River. I truly enjoyed the comaraderie and the travel. Seeing the countryside change fast enough to feel you were seeing new sights, but slowly enough to enjoy them seems the ideal way to explore.

I’m a self-employed engineer in San Francisco who enjoys biking at a casual pace, with plenty of stops for snacks + photos. Before 2022, most of my bike touring was DIY 1-week-or-less trips with friends, but I joined the first month of the 2022 TdA Bamboo Road (Vietnam and Cambodia), and the full Journey To The East in 2023 and had a great time on both (the riding, the people, the food)... so I'm hoping to join another tour some day-- the 2026 Tea Route and/or Odyssey.

“The Odyssey was an outstanding ride experience. A fabulous way to see Europe on many of the roads less travelled. It was a physical and mental blast. And I got to meet many like-minded and wonderful people from all over the globe.”

"It was a memorable experience! A physical, mental and emotional challenge. It seemed like there was a wonderful surprise everyday from UNESCO sites, to rides along the Adriatic and climbs through the Dolomites.”

“If I had to describe the Odyssey Tour in only one sentence, I would say; “if you crave unforgettable vistas and the challenge of epic climbs and long days on the bike, choose the Odyssey Tour! Every metre of ascent was worth the effort!”

Full tour and section dates listed are for first and last day of cycling. Prices based on double occupancy at majority of the hotels. Solo riders will be paired with another rider of the same gender at no additional charge. Accommodation the night before first cycling day and the night of last cycling day are included in entry fee. Single supplement may be available, please contact us for more information. We advise booking at least 1 additional night at tour accommodation before the tour, to be able to attend rider briefing and have assistance from tour bike mechanic in setting up your bike.

Full entry fee payment is due 90 days before the tour start date. Full tour entry fees will receive an early payment discount of €500 if full payment is received 6 months before the start of the tour. A registration fee of US$250 must first be paid to hold your place on the tour and is in addition to the entry fee listed above. Registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. We recommend registering 4 - 6 months before the tour start date to take full advantage of our pre-tour support and information bulletins, but late registrations are possible when spaces are still available.

Those coming for multiple sections get 10% off for 2 or more sections on the same tour (multiple section discount does not apply to full tour price). TDA alumni get special alumni discounts. Please contact our office for further details.
