Farewell to Egypt

Our last day in Egypt with hugs and farewells to our Egyptian friends: The Egyptian national cycling team, five of whom rode with us all the way to this frontier town; and Rizk and Mustafa from the Egyptian tour company who smoothed the way. We gave a teddy bear and a Star Wars toy to Mustafa for his children and an autographed plastic dinner plate to Rizk — who used to be a chef and took over the cooking for a week, dazzling our palates and filling the bottomless bellies of the racers with Mediterranean delicacies.

Obligatory visit to the great temples that were rescued from the rising waters of the Nile by a huge international effort in the 1970s.
