Jambo! and Welcome to Kenya

The temperature has increased markedly since our border crossing yesterday at the border town of Moyale. We stayed at the Kenya Wildlife Reserve campground last night, guarded by a curious (or hungry) ostrich and a bunch of cats to keep us company. Yesterday was a non race day of about 80km, followed by a lunch stop at the border, a sad farewell to Addis (our Ethiopian riding legend who headed to Addis today) and enabled everyone to complete the immigration process from Ethiopia to Kenya. First thoughts on Kenya include hot, friendly and hot! The ride today took us out of Moyale along dirt roads (the off road tyres are back on and the dust has returned) to our bush camp 80 kms down the road. The riders made light, but sweaty work of the ride and the two trucks found the route slow going with the corregations and bumps that apparently get worse and more rocky as we head south. The wildlife has definitely changed gain with camels, small antelopes called dik diks and bugs galore. Looking around at the vegetation, you would almost expect an elephant to appear (maybe? Or hopefully?). Tomorrow, brings more heat, more beautiful scenery and loads of rocks (we’ve been told). Welcome to Kenya!!!
