Elephants!

Forget about the riding, today was all about the sheer number of elephants that were “hanging” by the side of the road along with their giraffe buddies, wild dogs, warthogs and ostriches! There was only one snake sighting today which caused a minor accident amongst Tiff and Pierre but both are okay. Back to the elephant stories. Thor managed to park the lunch truck only a few kms from a watering hole so riders were coming through with stories of elephants crossing in front of them, elephants pretending to charge or simply about spotting elephants in the wild. Phil and Remy decided to give racing a miss today and spent some hours hanging by a water hole watching elephants come and go. Lucette and Tiffany got the 0 to 60 second award tonight in honour of their sprint when chased by a bull elephant. The racers were left complaining they didn’t get to see much, focused on the wheel in front of them and not the elephants. Nels had his first stage win of the tour, cranking through a couple of hills to outsprint Chris, Jan, Adrie and Eva. Nata Lodge is our campsite for the evening, a safari lodge with all the trappings; a bar, a pool, hot showers and somewhere to charge ipods. Life is tough in wildlife heaven tonight!
