Hello country number 7

Hello country number 7…Zambia and a brand new section, the Zambezi Zone. Land of luscious greens, avocado trees, pumpkins by the roadside, the strange sight of chanterelle mushrooms, and beer made from corn. The ride out from Lilongwe was a flat and fast 121km race distance with the hardest part being the exit from the city itself and navigating the early morning traffic. A sweet tailwind put some smiles on riders faces as they literally flew into lunch this morning and not too many punctures were reported so the road was in great condition. Siggy, our Belgian sectional rider had a blinder of a day for his first race day coming in third behind Chris and Adrie! Thankfully, for the most part, immigration procedures were straightforward (only staff were under threat of being held up but with some sweet talking the made it through) and the money changers were out in force and brutal as they descended upon unsuspecting riders! Chapati, our town of residence tonight was only 20km after the Zambia border crossing so riders were in nice and early to snare hotel rooms and relax. As it’s Easter weekend, not much was open so any goodies were haggled for from the street vendors. Tomorrow, is a 195km day with a mixture of flat roads, up hills and potholes with a refreshment stop thrown in midway through the day…wish us the best!
