Just Another Day on the Road

It was a fairly chilly start to the day accommpanied by an annoying head wind and a gradual climb that seemed like it went on for hours. It meant that when the riders arrived at lunch today, words like ‘great, good, fun, beautiful, sweet, awesome and excellent’ were definitely not used when describing how their mornings ride went. A few hopped onto the lunch truck, a few even ‘pulled the pin’ as the international went by. Many just turned on the ipod and headed off from lunch. Not even 2km after the lunch stop, the sweetest downhill appeared allowing those still on the road some twisting and turning action and awesome views of far off mountains and plains that would put a smile on anybody’s face. Just when the road was becoming too much again and the headwind too annoying, up popped a town at 100km offering snacks, beer and drinks! The road is paved and smooth, the shoulder is big and the traffic is not too bad and tomorrow we hit Turpan for a rest day so there are still things to look forward to. In the end there was a nice, well-protected campsite nestled in the hills.
