Khartoum

A 20km time trial and a 30km police escorted convoy through the great city of Khartoum ends the Pharaoh’s Delight section of the 2008 tour. Jos and Janet took the 20km time trial for the men and women, screaming in at 30:13 and 35:16, respectively. Josh Martyn and Ashleigh Emerick won the expedition class time trial with times of 34:19 and 37:33.

Now we enjoy two consecutive rest days, meaning three nights in the same place, also meaning that we can leave our tents pitched for three nights. It’s the little things guys, the little things. And let’s not discount the showers! Glory! We’re clean, decked out in our least dirty clothes with many in search of Falafels, cokes and restaurants for our evening’s entertainment. Still, no beers, as we’re in prohibition, Muslim country. We’re waiting eagerly for Ethiopia’s wet border.
