Update from Iringa
We have overcome the relentless days of rough roads and heavy heat of the Massai Steppe, but not without losses.
Paul Porter fell quite severely a few days ago and has had to return to the United States. His presence will be sorely missed by all and we wish him a speedy recovery and Godspeed.
Today we are camped at a Baptist Compound just outside downtown Iringa. The riders who stuck around camp have been serenaded by hundreds of Tanzanian youth singing hauntingly beautiful hymns in Swahili. Shortly we will decamp and trek further south to the Malawian border and the challenges of our next section, Malawi Gin.
Despite the challenges of the past few days, clearly something about them appeals to the human spirit as one of our Lonely Planet riders elected to stay on the tour and ride out Malawi Gin.
Good Decision.
