African Skies

Sahara heavens at night
Brilliant constellations orbit the slowly sinking polar star
Every 110 km we ride south is another degree of latitude
Closer to the equator
The Southern Cross and the Polar Star share the firmament
Shared with all creatures past and present
Could we share all nature equally
Perhaps an impossible dream

– Cyclist Ernest Enns (2009 Tour d’Afrique)
