The 2025 Golden Buddha Ride: What To Expect
The inaugural Golden Buddha Ride took place in November and December of 2023 and made quite an impression on the 33 cyclists who took part in the adventure, including TDA Founder, Henry Gold. Now, as the second edition of this “exceptionally stimulating, delightful, challenging & rewarding” cycling tour across Vietnam, Laos & Thailand is approaching, we thought we would look back at the reports from the field in 2023.
My First Day On The Golden Buddha Ride Adventure
TDA Founder Henry Gold wrote about his time in Saigon before the start of the 2023 Golden Buddha Ride. The city brings back memories of the movies (Good Morning Vietnam), the theatre (Miss Saigon) and the Vietnam War. Oh, and includes a smuggled Durian fruit… (Read more)
Visiting Dalat’s Crazy House on the Golden Buddha Ride
A week into the 2023 Golden Buddha Ride, TDA Founder Henry Gold discovered where Russians are now spending their winters and, in the hill town of Dalat, known for its wine and flowers, visits The Crazy House. It is like “Antoni Gaudi’s creations in Barcelona. The Crazy House is on that spectrum, but much, much ‘crazier.” (Read More)
Some Observations From A Rest Day In Hué, Vietnam
Now 2 weeks into the 2023 Golden Buddha Ride, Founder Henry Gold explored the ancient Imperial city of Hué wandering along the (unscented!) Perfume River, pondering the seeming paradox of a capitalist economy in a socialist state and marvelling at the street skills of a local ‘key man.’ (Read More)
Capturing The Chaos: Photographing From A Scooter On The Golden Buddha Ride
Coby Werlin, the Content Creator on the 2023 Golden Buddha Ride, explained what it was like to film the tour’s riders. “The high-speed, ever-changing environment demands quick thinking and adaptability, resulting in a mix of imperfect yet authentic images. It’s a testament to the unpredictable nuances of Southeast Asia and the beauty hidden in the midst of organized chaos. It’s also just a heck of a lot of fun!” (Read More)
A Video Preview Of What To Expect On The 2025 Golden Buddha Ride
Good Morning Vietnam
After experiencing the energy and heat of Saigon the riders climb into the mountains and get to experience another side of Vietnam on their way to the historic imperial capital of Hue.
The Mighty Mekong
As they head north along the coast past karst formations, they climb into the mountains where they meet the Mekong River as they enter laid-back Laos.
Over the Hills & Far Away
Leaving Vientiane, the riders head further north to the charming town of Luang Prabang, and its saffron-clad monks. Then they tackle the hills of rural Laos before turning south into Thailand.
The Three Kingdoms
Leaving behind the relaxed atmosphere of Chiang Mai, the riders head south through the rural Thai countryside, and soon arrive in Sukhothai, a UNESCO site and the first of the three Kingdoms of Siam they pass on the way to Bangkok.
A Final Word – One Year Later: Reflections On The 2023 Golden Buddha Ride
A year after the 2023 Golden Buddha Ride finished in bustling Bangkok, TDA Founder Henry Gold took a thoughtful look back at his experiences in Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. After recalling his wonderful adventures with the locals, he concludes, “When I came back home from the trip and was asked how the trip was, I said great. A year later it feels even greater.” (Read More)
