New and Improved Tips for First Time Cycle Tourists

Many of us dream about a grand cycling adventure. Some of us have no interest in self-supported tours (carrying your own bags, choosing your route, finding your own food and accommodations each day), while others wouldn’t have it any other way. But whether you are planning (or dreaming) of a solo or supported cycle tour in the future, we wanted to help you with some practical tips.

We harnessed our combined head office experience of participating in and leading cycle tours. We sought out further tips from the cycle touring community online, and then we asked our past participants for their best tips too. What resulted was a fantastic mix of pre-departure tips, on the road tips, and many more general tips on how to stay positive and how to set your expectations appropriately.

Spending several weeks or even months on the road cycle touring requires lots of practical planning and mental determination. The best way to get started is to learn from others who have been through this already.

A year ago we announced the first edition of these helpful tips for first time bike tourers. It turned out to be quite popular, so we took some time to improve the content even more. We gathered more tips from our clients, and redesigned the document to make it easier to find the tips that are most relevant to you.
