Trans-Oceania Cycling to Melbourne on Friday

After pedaling thru all the Indonesian islands, across the Outback and along the Great Ocean Road, 35 cyclists from 12 countries will soon arrive to Melbourne – what some say is Australia’s best cycling city.

Among the participants who started in Sumatra is Australian Brett Lanham, retired Shipmaster, who is one of three individuals who are competing to be the 1st ever to cycle the 7Epics (the cyclists’ 7 summits).

This challenge was created by the Canadian company TDA Global Cycling (TDA), which also organizes the Trans-Oceania cycling expedition. After leaving Melbourne the intrepid group will cycle another few weeks to their grand finale in Sydney at the famed Opera House. That will mark the end of their 11,000 km, 4 month cycling odyssey.

Henry’s most recent blog focuses on the relentless headwinds that he and the rest of the cyclists have endured over the past few weeks.

“Still, even daily winds in our faces did not deter the cyclists from putting on their spandex shorts every morning and riding from one lovely spot to the next.” says Gold.
