Ruta Maya Cycling Scholarship

Thanks to a generous donation by one of our past riders, we have the lucky job of selecting 2 deserving young people for a cycling scholarship to participate in the 2016 Ruta Maya. Here is what is included in the scholarship:

1. Flights to and from Central America
2. Entry fee to participate in the 5-week cycling tour through 5 countries in
   Central America
3. An allowance for equipment and clothing needed
4. An allowance for pre-tour costs – getting passports and other expenses
5. Pocket money during the tour

We have already chosen one worthy candidate from our home city of Toronto – thanks to Charlie’s Freewheels who found an ideal candidate amongst its graduates from their build-a-bike program.

Here is the criteria for the second participant to be awarded a scholarship:

1. Must be between 18 and 25 years old
2. Must have a strong background in community service
3. Must be generally fit and healthy
4. Must be ready to show proof that the trip and its expenses are beyond their means
